Google is a search engine company that begun as a project by two Stanford graduate students. In 1996, one of the founders Larry Page began writing a PhD research paper about the WWW (World Wide Web) mathematical properties. Mr. Page later focused on researching about the way web pages linked to other web pages. In 1998, Sergey Brin, a friend and a colleague who was also studying for a Doctorate degree joined Larry Page on the research project. The research project was named BackRub, because of its backlink analysis. The project proved to be successful and with that success, the two graduate students started working on Google.

At the initial stages, Page and Brin operated from their dorm rooms and used the University’s website and google.stanford.edu as the domain name. Working from their dorm rooms, the duo utilized used, cheap and borrowed PCs to come up with their own server network. The two attempted to sell their idea but after failing to find buyers, they decided to keep the project, which was later renamed Google. After a series of developments, the two found a partner in Sun Microsystems and in 1997; they incorporated the company as Google Inc. Today, Google is the leading search engine.
