How to Build a Wooden Fence

When selecting a property fence design, it is possible for an individual to be overwhelmed by the numerous options available for choice. However, a selection of the fence design is mainly determined by two considerations including the form which is generally the stylistic considerations and the function, which relates to the practical purpose that the fencing is bound to serve.

Building a Wooden Fence

  • Here are suggestions and tips regarding what building wood fences entails. These tips are capable of saving time, effort and money and should all be read carefully before the job is begun.
  • Foremost, the fence requires to be laid out to give an individual a general idea regarding the number of fencing material and posts required
  • It is advisable that all posts be concreted to the ground and concrete filled using a water resister around the post to the ground level point to avoid rotting. The hole should be dug at least two and a half to three feet in depth to thwart frost heaving. For 6 feet fences, purchase 10′ 4×4 treated-lumber should be purchased.
  • After digging a 6” auger hole the post should be placed aground and filled with concrete. After checking the post’s plumb and level, it requires being level on each of the four sides. With ideally thick concrete, the post should be easily moved, although the concrete should be capable of holding it after finding a level spot.
  • The above should be repeated for each post with a recommended increment of 6 feet. Although an increment of 8 feet can also do, there is a potential risk of the fencing and wood sagging later.
  • An ideal 48 hours is permitted for concrete to entirely set. Incase there is an option of not using concrete, it is important to ensure that dirt is backed round the post to ensure it is secure.
  • At this juncture treated 2×4’s should be attached to the posts’ bottom length area. The ground’s contour should be followed and this ensures an ideal flowing fence rather than the effect that pre-made panels make.
  • After placing the bottom piece in place, two similar lengths of treated 2×4′s should be cut and this is generally an inch to two inches shorter in comparison to the chosen fence panel. These should be vertically attached to the posts while maintaining a connection to the rail bottom. This makes putting the top rail in easy and level with the bottom rail.
  • After putting in place all the 2×4′s screwing or nailing the fence may commence with something preferably rust proof by starting from the ground level side and following the ground contour.

After completing the work of building the wooden fence, the entire fence should then be treated by using a water resister, which is still recommendable.
