Who Invented Bowling?

Bowling is a sport associated with the striking down of pins that are strategically placed using a large ball. The ball normally has holes at the top for holding it when throwing towards the pins. The pins are placed at a substantial distance in an alley and it needs a certain amount of skill to knock all the pins down. The game can be dated back to the ancient Egyptians where they tossed a ball down an alley and then paused strategically to wait and listen to the odd satisfying crashing of the pins. An archeologist, Sir Flinders Petrie found the pins together with bowling balls in a grave of an Egyptian child in the year 5200 BC. The art of Bowling is accredited to him.

5200 BC marked the earliest evidence of the existence of the sport and its likely origin. There is another bowling version which was coined by William Pehle, a German historian who claimed the sport originated from Germany in the year 300 AD. This game has flourished in many forms especially in Europe and particularly in England where it was popularized in the reign of King Edward III. Its popularity was so stretched that the King outlawed it so as not to distract troops who were practicing sword fighting skills. All in all, bowling is a fantastic game to play.
