Who Discovered Brazil?

Brazil is said to have been discovered by the Portuguese, more particularly by an explorer known as Pedro Alvares Sergio Cabral Brasil who lived between 1467, 1468 or 1469 to around 1520. The explorer is said to have discovered the land on the 22nd day of April the year 1500. Prior to discovering Brazil, Pedro Alvares Cabral was sent on a mission whose agenda was to institute lasting commercial relations and initiate Christianity everywhere he went, even if it meant to use force of arms. This nature of the task led to the emergence of rich Florentine merchants, to help in the contribution of shipping equipments and also saw many priests join the expedition.

Pedro set out with a Calvary of 13 ships with 1,500 men and some of the captains were Pero Vaz de Caminha, Bartolomeu Dias, Nicholau Coelho and Sancho de Tovar accompanied Alvares, Nicholau Coelho being Vasco da Gama’s companion. As a matter of fact, Vasco da Gama gave the voyagers the necessary directions himself as they undertook the journey. After discovering the country, Portugal had little or no interest with Brazil and this is because of the high profits that they gained through commerce with Indonesia, China and India. This lack of interest encouraged other countries to invade Brazil and the Crown in Portugal devised a plan to occupy Brazil effectively without any costs; dividing land among the Portuguese noblemen to guard their own territory.
