What is Carbon?

Carbon is a nonmetallic element that is naturally abundant that is known to form the basis of many living organisms. Carbon is considered to be the fourth abundant element to be found in the world. In addition, carbon plays a major role in stability and health of the earth as a planet via the carbon cycle. The cycle is normally very complex and also illustrates an interconnection between the earth organisms. Many consumers are usually familiar with the carbon element, together with the various forms in which it appears.

Carbon has an atomic number rating as six and the symbol C is used to identify the element on the periodic table. The carbon molecules are usually structured in such a way that the molecules are let to bond readily with several other elements and thereby causing the formation of thousands of other compounds. The carbon molecules are also able to join in many ways and this action creates other carbon forms like graphite, also considered to be one of the softest substances on earth and diamonds that are the hardest substances available. Carbon’s changing personality depends entirely on what it is able to bond with and again how it is able to bond with other elements; this is a very unique feature.
