The first thing I ever do when I move into a new house or apartment is check that the smoke detectors are working correctly. They’re an important part of any household and if you don’t have good smoke detectors, it’s probably time to consider the Kidde combination detector covered in this review. What Kidde has done is come up with an innovative combination product that is both a smoke alarm and a carbon monoxide detector. It uses a voice warning system that alerts you when it detects something and goes on full alarm when things get serious. For the relatively cheap price tag, they’re a worthwhile investment for any family and should be on your holiday shopping list this year.

Let’s Hear That Baby Ring
For the price point alone, the Kidde is a great buy. Most smoke detectors are much more expensive than the $35 you’ll drop on these. You may need to buy five or six for your entire home, but coming in at less than two hundred bucks shouldn’t break the bank for your family’s safety. Our favorite feature of the entire device is that it’s a dual purpose detector. Kidde realized the need for a detector of the very deadly gas, carbon monoxide, and threw in that feature as well. Believe it or not, many people die from carbon monoxide poisoning every year and a lot of people don’t have detectors to save themselves. When we went to install the devices around the home, it was apparent that they were very easy to install and connect with one another. There’s no point having smoke detectors if they can’t all ring at the same time to notify the whole household.
Where it Fails
Unfortunately, we have to have a “cons” section about these smoke detectors. Our first gripe with the product was with how sensitive it was. The manual gives directions on where to place the detectors, but even a slight variance on the guidance they give will end up with plenty of false positives. Until we got our placement right, the thing was going on and off nonstop. Other customers have complained about the sensitivity of the device as well. I guess it’s entirely up to you as to whether or not you want an overly sensitive smoke detector . It’s great in emergencies, but when stepping out of the shower and letting some steam into the hall shouldn’t make the thing go off. Apart from that, we had no real complaints with the device and are happy that the dual functionality can be purchased at such a low price.
