How to Motivate Employees

Creative business meeting

When employees became very familiar to work, they may get bored and as a result, their productivity diminishes. To improve the productivity and boost the morale of employees they need to be motivated from time to time. This will not only be beneficial to the employees, it will also reduce the stress faced by employers. The following are simple ways that bosses can use to motivate their employees.

Be an example

If the boss is not passionate or enthusiastic about the job, this attitude will trickle down to the workers, who will in turn become less passionate about their work. The example set by the employer will bring motivation to the employees.

Interact With the Employees

Learn about the everyday lives of the employees. This does not mean getting to know their personal information. Ask the employees how their day went or any trouble they are experiencing. For some employees having the boss talk to them is already a great motivator and will make them feel good about themselves.

Start a process where the employees will be able to express their opinions on the work. The employees should also be asked what motivates them when working for the company.

Set Clear Goals

As long as the employees clearly know and understand the goals set by the company, they will be motivated to work towards achieving those goals. When setting goals, make sure that they are specific, measurable as well as realistic.

Delegate Authority

Ensure that the employees clearly understand their roles and give them space to accomplish those duties. Pressure creates resistance, thus the employer should not constantly watch over the work done by the employees.

The employer should delegate certain duties in accordance with the capabilities of each employee. Allowing the employees to make their own decisions will go along way in motivating them.

Consult In Decision Making

Get the input of all employees when making decisions. Get to know their feelings and point of views pertaining to certain decisions. Doing this will make the employees feel appreciated and valued.

Listening Ear

Develop a listening attitude. When giving out certain instructions get feedback from the employees. Get to know their concerns as well.

Provide Incentives

One of the most used ways to motivate employees is to provide them with incentives. The incentives could include awards certificates, bonus or pay rise, increased of days, promotion, company retreats among others.

Once the productivity of employees has started to increase due to motivation, do not stop there, but keep on motivating them.
