A man and a woman make a DIY project

There are different people who desire to be designers but others may not know where to start. There are different types of designers such as product designers, jewelry designers, home designers, handbag designers. Others are graphic designers, interior designers, typographers and animators. However, in many cases the term designer has often been associated with fashion designers.

To become any of the above designers, one needs to follow the following steps:

  • One must be ready to recognize his or her strengths; what does he or she like most. It has been stated that a fashion designer is visible at a very early age and will be found making clothes for baby dolls or perusing through fashion magazines, instead of playing with friends.
  • The next step would be for one to research on the design careers that are available, getting information on what they entail. He may come to understand that to become a fashion designer for example, one would be required to come up with many shoe, clothes and accessories.
  • The next step would be for him to narrow his or her interests on the areas that one is most interested in.
  • Thirdly, one should identify the skills that he or she already have and those that he or she lacks so that one can learn them.
  • The person will now be required to choose a design school bearing in mind the cost, the location and the reputation.
  • One should next create a network with other designers that are studying or practicing what one is interested in.
  • The next step would be for the student to find an internship where he or she can practice what he or she has been learning.
  • The last step would be for one to set time and interview design firms’ top management enquiring on where his or her career can fit best and ensure he or she makes a follow up.
