How to Play Pokemon TCG

Playing Pokemon TCG

A lot of people, not only kids, are addicted to Pokemon cards. A number of them simply collect these cards, but playing the trading card game can even add more fun and excitement to these cards. It is a game of strategy. There are three ways to win the game. One is to get all the six prizes. Next is if your opponent does not have any cards left to challenge your Pokemon. And lastly, if your opponent does not have any cards left in his deck before starting his turn. The game is really easy. You just need to learn the steps below.

  1. Before drawing 7 cards from you deck, shuffle it first. After getting your first set of cards, place your deck in front of you facing down.
  2. You can put back your 7 cards from your deck if you are not able to get any Basic Pokemon cards, which are used to fight against your opponent. Reshuffle your deck then get a new set of cards. You can keep on doing this until you are able to obtain a Basic Pokemon card. But keep in mind that every time you do this, your opponent can draw 2 more cards.
  3. If you have Basic Pokemon cards on hand, choose 1 to be your Active Pokemon which will be the one to challenge your opponent’s card. Your chosen Active Pokemon card should be placed in front of you facing down. You can also select up to 5 Basic Pokemon cards on hand to face down but only as Bench, which is where the cards wait until they become Active.
  4. Draw 6 cards from your deck but place it facing down. These will serve as your prizes. You can take one of these every time you defeat your opponent and remember that this is the only time when you can look at the card.
  5. Toss a coin to know who starts first.
  6. You can then turn over the Active and Bench Pokemon cards.
  7. Start your turn by drawing a card. If by chance you are starting your turn without any cards to draw, you are already defeated by your opponent.
  8. You can do any of the following without number of limits during your turn. You can choose again a Basic Pokemon card if those in your Bench are already less than 4 cards. Putting together an Energy card to your Pokemon to give more energy when attacking is also possible. In doing this, do not forget to put the Energy card under you Pokemon card. If you have an Evolution card, you can attach this with your Pokemon or other Evolution card to give more power. You can also use a Pokemon Power before you fight your opponent. This power can be seen on the Pokemon card. Lastly, you can also use a Trainer card, if you have, then just follow the instructions. After using the Trainer card, discard it.
  9. The last move you can do during your turn is using your active Pokemon to attack your opponent.
