How to Cross Stitch?

Cross stitching is considered to be one of the simplest forms of embroidery available that uses only two types of stitches .With these two stitches, a number for needlework styles pictures and designs can be formed.

The cross stitch, also known as counted cross stitch, is an ancient and a cross cultured technique of embroidery. It is easy and very exciting to do. To cross stitch:

  • The fabric should be cut to the size that has been written on the pattern and then make a marking on the center. Cut the thread to approximately ninety one centimeters which is equivalent to approximately nine yards of the thread.
  • The embroidery thread usually comes in the skeins of six strands on every thread. You will therefore be required to separate the threads and pick on one strand that you will use in your cross stitch. You should then thread your needle in such a way that the ends of the thread remain equal.
  • The stitching should begin from the very top towards the left of the stitch and then direct the needle from the bottom while you are holding on to the tail that is on the backside of the thread. Ensure that you leave an allowance of about two pint five inches at the back, so that it can be used for an anchor.
  • The thread should then be brought down towards the right corner but at the lowest point. You can then back this up via the upper side and to the right and then to the lower left side to create an X. Ensure that every time you do this all the thread is pulled through thoroughly in such a manner that it does not flush on the surface of the fabric.
  • You can continue with the next step once this is achieved ensuring that two holes that are of the same nature are used up at ago.
  • The process should be repeated with regard being paid to the stitches to ensure that they do overlap on the anchor thread that is usually at the back of the fabric.

It is possible for one to thread the needles using two strands of the thread but this should be done ensuring that a loose end is left for the purpose of leaving room for the correction of any mistakes during the entire process but it is also important that this action can also make one accidentally pull the needle from the thread totally.
