Arthritis is a condition of the joints. The arthritic patient suffers from acute pain in the joints. It literally causes inflammation and swelling. Patients suffering from Chronic arthritis even have trouble walking a little distance as the pain is unbearable. While, there is no guaranteed cure for this condition, certain home based remedies can provide good relief, without any side effects.

One of the most effective ways of managing arthritis is the use of Epsom salt. Epsom salt is high in magnesium which is important for bone growth. Lack of magnesium in the body lowers the ability of the body to absorb calcium which primarily helps in bone building.
- Mix 3 tablespoons of Epsom salt with 3 tablespoons of lemon juice in one pint of lukewarm water and take one teaspoon every morning and evening.
- However, make sure you do not have any prevailing heart or kidney diseases, if unsure consult with your doctor.
- Excessive magnesium may cause heart anomalies, diarrhea, nausea and cramps.
- You can also add three cups of Epsom salt to your bath and soak in it every night for a week.
- This soothes and relaxes stiff joints.
Use of spices that reduce inflammation of the joints is a common home remedy.
- Peel and slice two cloves of fresh ginger and take them with each meal.
- In place of the ginger you can substitute with turmeric.
- Sprinkle two teaspoons of turmeric in each plate of food.
- Both remedies should be followed for a month, but the results should be experienced in the first five to six days.
A natural home remedy that is very effective for arthritis is the use of cinnamon.
- Add one teaspoon of cinnamon powder to two tablespoons of honey and take it every morning before breakfast.
- This should be done repeatedly for the duration of a month.
- Another natural remedy is the consumption of two tablespoons of cod liver oil daily.
- The omega-3 acids in the oil help reduce pain and manage the inflammation.
- In place of the cod liver oil, one can use flax seed oil, which also contains omega-3.
- However, flax seed oil should be taken three times a day, one tablespoon.
Drinking the nettle soup also is also effective. To make this soup you will need;
- three tablespoons of finely chopped onions,
- two cloves of finely chopped garlic,
- five tablespoons of sunflower oil,
- half a liter of water, half a kg of fresh nettle tops,
- a pint of milk and freshly ground black pepper.
This is how to make the soup.
- Cook the onions and garlic in a pan, but do not let them turn brown.
- Pour in the water and stir until a paste is formed.
- Add the nettle tops and cover till they are cooked, about fifteen minutes.
- Pour the resultant into a blender and blend the mixture.
- Return the soup into the pan and add the milk, when it boils, add the pepper as seasoning.
- Drink when it cools. Make a habit of drinking a cup every morning and evening for two weeks.
